Pharmacy Technician

Pharmacy Technicians work within the practice or primary care network (PCN) teams to support and assist clinical pharmacists through their technical skillset.

Within a primary care setting this might involve issuing and managing prescriptions, clinical auditing and, where appropriate, giving advice to both patients and members of the primary care team.

Pharmacy Technicians can help by;
  • supporting patients to manage their medication
  • supporting the clinical pharmacist(s) through specialist expertise
  • troubleshooting issues with prescriptions
Pharmacy Technicians are;
  • accurate and methodical
  • good communicators
  • able to maintain confidentiality and privacy

Pharmacy Technician Training:

To practise as a pharmacy technician in England, you’ll need to complete an accredited course and register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). Approved qualifications can also be reached through apprenticeship.
