New year, new job?

At the start of the second full working week in January, ‘new year, new job’ optimism remains high. January is often a time for reflection and an opportunity to reset, look ahead and make plans for the new year; for some a new job will feature – sometimes by choice and sometimes necessary.  Changing jobs can be daunting, but if you’re prepared for what’s ahead, it can be more manageable and also an exciting process too.

In 2023, Primary Care Careers advertised over 2,000 roles – there’s lots on offer in primary care – a range of opportunities for both clinical and non-clinical staff. Our website is regularly updated with new opportunities and you can sign up to job alerts to be notified of new roles as they are listed.

If a new job may be something you are thinking about in 2024, it is worth considering…

  1. Is your CV up to date and is it something you are proud of? Does it accurately reflect you – your knowledge, skills and experience?
  2. Why are you looking for a new role?
  3. What are you looking for from an employer and a new role? This includes lots of things such as salary & benefits, hours & flexibility, location, responsibilities etc.

When completing an application…

  1. Take time – provide the information that is requested and show how your knowledge, skills and experience are relevant to the role, you cannot rush this.
  2. Demonstrate a genuine interest in and enthusiasm for the role – why should you be invited for an interview?
  3. Check for mistakes, check that you have completed everything that has been asked for and keep a log of your applications.

If you are invited for an interview, preparation is key to giving yourself the best chance…

  1. Research your prospective employer and review the job/person specification and any information provided.
  2. Review your CV and consider your transferable skills and experience in relation to the role.
  3. What questions would you like answered?
